Instagram Inspiration – Kids Edition

Summer is winding down here in Wilton and school starts next week, and probably like most of you, I’m looking forward to fall and cooler weather!!! I’ve dug out the acrylics and watercolors I’ve had stashed away for years, and I’ve been painting daily thanks to Pam Garrison and CreativeBug. She has a wonderful line of videos, check them out if you’ve ever wanted to pick up a paintbrush. Its never to late to try something new!

You have all been very busy this summer. I’ve loved seeing what you have been making. Thanks for sharing with me on Instagram. I’m always so inspired. Here are some of my favorites.

Sis Boom in South Africa

South-Africa-1b
I was thrilled when my friend Rachel shared these photos of a woman named Gloria receiving Sis Boom fabric all the way in South Africa. Gloria, a mother of 4, is an aspriring entrepreneur who sews bags, baby bibs, shoes and commissioned work from her community to help support her family and hopes to one day design and open her own boutique. Gloria’s smile says it all in this picture: complete JOY! Gloria said she’ll be using the fabric for various projects and clothing and not a scrap will go to waste.

As a child, Gloria made clothing for her dolls from bits of plastic and whatever she could find. Gloria always wanted to learn how to sew and was thrilled when a missionary named Anneke with Ten Thousand Homes taught Gloria how to sew. Anneke gifted Gloria with her sewing machine before leaving South Africa.

Gloria’s family and others have been helped through Ten Thousand Homes, which is “a movement of ordinary people activiely building HOPE and creating HOMES for African’s orphans and vulnerable children.” I’m so grateful to organizations like Ten Thousand Homes for making a difference in this world, my friend Rachel Berwick for contacting me about donating the fabric and Christine Reinhardt for lugging the fabric and other sewing notions half way around the world!

Caravelle Arcade Inspiration for the Wee Ones

You all are a talented bunch. I’m always amazed and inspired in your vision, and how you design and sew to bring my fabrics to life. I have to share these 2 amazing designers and outfits they created for little ones. First, Brook over at Little One Organic made these darling Daisy Doo rompers with shorts and suspenders. She used Daisy in green and ivory from the new Caravelle Arcade line. I’m just smitten.

Little ones Little ones 2

Next up is Lisa  from Evelyn Anna Handmade. She used Ruby in Blue also from Caravelle Arcade for this darling tunic top. Loving the scalloped detail. I’m seeing scallops everywhere this season! They are definitely all the rage.

Groovy, baby

It’s been a little over a month since Caravelle Arcade sailed into the stores, and I’m thrilled to see all the projects you’re sharing with me on Facebook and Instagram. You guys are a talented bunch!

Last week my favorite photographer in the world, Tim Geaney, stopped by and we took some amazing photos of Sis Boom patterns in Caravelle Arcade. You can create the same look below by using Bonnie in purple in our Judy Fancy Pants pattern topped off with Rebecca in fuchsia in our Devon Top. Have lots of small scraps of your favorite Sis Boom fabrics left over from various sewing projects? A decoupage guitar is the perfect accessory! In this YouTube video I show you how to decoupage a suitcase, but the same technique can be applied to anything including a guitar.
