Sis Boom Super Fan: Meet Lisa Brosnan of Summer Lillies

From time to time, we enjoy featuring some of our biggest fans. In a time of mass production and clothing trends lasting one season, we love featuring these creative men and women who champion handmade and vintage. We hope this holiday season, you’ll make a loved one a gift or shop a small business online and support handmade. We couldn’t do what we do without all these Sis Boom-loving artisans around the world!

My name is Lisa Brosnan, owner and designer of Summer Lillies. I live in Bunbury, WA with my husband, 2 daughters (Lillian and Summer) and my 2 golden retrievers (Diago and Soda).

I come from a very creative family, my mother, grandmother and aunties are all quilters and bear and doll makers. So I have grown up appreciating anything handmade. Even my dishcloths are made by my grandmother. After I had my second daughter Summer, I became obsessed with handmade and discovered the huge handmade world in Australia! My husband purchased me a new sewing machine, and I started playing around with patterns, modelling them on my daughters. My friends all started requesting outfits, which was how Summer Lillies came about. It was an outlet for my creative side. And even though it started as a hobby, it is now my full time job. SL runs from a studio in my own home, and is still inspired by Lilly and Summer.

I was on Etsy one day browsing fabrics, when i saw my first JPAG fabric… it was Happy Land Claudia, and it stole my breath. I very quickly became a stalker of her collections. Buying in all new collections, and sourcing out all her older pieces too. Too this day Claudia is still one of my absolute favs! I love to use Jennifer’s designs so much, because I feel they represent my own tastes and styles… They are bold and loud and a little different, but still delicate, pretty, floral, and very feminine. Her collections are always so breathtaking, that’s its hard not to pick up one her fabrics and not be inspired to create! She is constantly designing new collections, so i always have lots of her new fabrics to keep me going! I am obsessed with everything she creates. I have some of her paintings in my studio, to compliment my huge JP stash! Summer Lillies adores JP!

The fabric that started it all! Claudia from Happy Land.

Sis Boom Patterns – Always a Perfect Fit

Long time Sis Boom fan, Rachel Berwick Hodges, was contacted by her friend Christiana Nelson recently to sew dresses for herself and her daughter. Rachel lives in New Hampshire and Christina is in Texas so they weren’t going to have a chance to met in person, pick a pattern together and take measurements. But luckily with Sis Boom Patterns, you always get the perfect fit.

Rachel said of the experience “These patterns are so great! Christy gave me their measurements and I chose the pattern sizes based off of them, which resulted in perfect fits! I haven’t seen either of them in a year, so being able to get a perfect fit just going by measurements means that Sis Boom patterns really are something.”

Rachel sewed the Carolina Mae for Christy and the Meghan Peasant for her daughter. All the fabric used in the dresses is from the Good Company fabric line. Both dresses look amazing on these 2 lovely ladies! Thanks for sharing with us, Rachel.

We hope you’ll keep Sis Boom Patterns in mind for your Holiday Sewing. If you ever have any questions on the patterns or sewing in general, you can join our Sis Boom Pattern Co Facebook Group. Don’t forget to tag us on Facebook and Instagram to show off you Sis Boom creations.

Sis Boom Super Fan: Ella Rose Boutique

The Sis Boom Holiday Show is in full swing but we still wanted to share with you Ella Rose Boutique and her wonderful use of Sis Boom fabrics. We LOVE how Rose has combined the new Nostalgia line with gold metallic fabric. They play off each other beautifully.

Hi my name is Rose, I share my life with my two boys Chris 13, Matt 11, husband Peter and dog Rusty the faithful Kelpie X. We live on a Sugar Cane farm which has been in my husband’s family for over 100 years! and live close to a small town called Innisfail, which is in Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia. It is beautiful and green up here, possibly because it rains nearly every day of the year, well not quite, but it feels like it sometimes!!

I have been sewing now for almost 30 years. Thanks to my wonderfully creative Mum who is an avid sewer and loves all things crafty, I developed an interest in sewing from a young age. Mum would spend hours teaching my sisters and I how to sew, and we created many wonderful and varied outfits on Mum’s Bernina 730 Record, what a fantastic sewing machine it was; I think it still works perfectly to this day!

I first discovered the wonderful world of Jennifer Paganelli’s Sis Boom fabrics almost 8 years ago, while sourcing fabrics for my hair accessories business. I found them irresistible, hence my fabric stash trebled in size after this discovery!!

After designing hair accessories for a few years, I dabbled in home decor – cushion making, until about six months ago when I decided to take up the challenge and create my own Baby/Toddler wear label and tadah “Ella Rose Boutique” was born! Named for my 3 gorgeous nieces! Ella, Frances Ella & Annamieka Rose.

The first outfit I made for my store was a Sun Suit with the fabric Canary Isabelle from Sis Boom’s Good Company Range. I just love the vibrant colours and tones of this scrumptious fabric.

At Ella Rose Boutique you will find an eclectic mix of clothing including shorties, bloomers, rompers, flutter sleeve and halter neck tops, dresses, head wraps, top knots and much much more… I love to use quality cotton fabrics, lace trimmings, ruffles, pretty ribbons and bows and all those wonderful girly things! The Sis boom range of fabrics features regularly in my store as I find that with this fabric I am able to design outfits that truly reflect my creative style.

The new Nostalgia range is simply stunning, I love the golden highlights, and rich hues which work perfectly with my Vintage Metallic gold range of clothing.

My passion is creating and I constantly find myself dreaming up new ideas for outfits, thanks to Jennifer Paganelli’s range of beautiful fabrics I have been able to create unique, fun & stylish designs for little ones all around the world!

Sis Boom Super Fans: Tracey and Chantelle Walker

Meet mother and daughter quilters, Tracey and Chantelle from Australia. We love this sweet story of Tracey and Chantelle quilting togethering, allowing them to slow down and bond in our fast-paced, hectic world.

I’m Tracey, mother to Chantelle, 15 years of age and wife to Shane. We moved from Victoria to the beautiful Swan Valley Region in Western Australia 10 years ago and fell in love with how relaxing it was.

I started quilting after watching my mother make a small quilt for Chantelle when she was a baby. Internet and books were my friends and I’ve learnt from lots of mistakes. The quilts I make have been for my nieces, nephews and of course Chantelle.

In 2012 I discussed with Chantelle learning to sew so that we could spend time together after school and work and talk about how her week had been. She didn’t take to making clothes. In 2013 she made the transition to quilting and hasn’t looked back. Chantelle has made a number of quilts, mainly for herself but has given a couple to friends. Last year we met another West Australian quilter, the one and only Edwina Foskew. This is when we first heard of Jennifer Paganelli and were introduced to the fabrics. Chantelle was gifted some Jenny Eliza and fell in love with the colours and prints. Edwina also encourages Chantelle in all her sewing and fabric buying. She’s yet to use it, waiting for the perfect project.

This year we encouraged Chantelle to create her own facebook page, Chantelle’s Sewing Adventures to show her creations and to be proud of what she does. She’s also started working at Handcrafters House, our local quilt store, gaining more experience from the talented team.

We have been blessed to have a fantastic network of family and friends who encourage Chantelle with her quilting.
