Watcha Wearin’ January/Just for Me January/Day to Night Challenge- Sis Boom Carolina Mae

I love when a blog post can do double duty. Even better when it can go for QUINTUPLE duty! And today’s post is going to do just that.

#1- This is absolutely outfits that I have worn in January. Yes, I really do wear sleeveless dresses in January. Crazy much? Maybe, but I’ve yet to find a woven sleeved dress that doesn’t have a puff sleeve that makes me this happy. #watchawearinjanuary

#2- A fabulous dress for my Sew Along and Sewing Contests: Deep Stash Edition. I bought the Carolina Mae when it first came out. I’ve made it several different times in different sizes as I’ve gained and lost weight. I’m happy to be sewing it again. The glitter dot is a new fabric. I don’t keep anything that fancy just sitting in my stash. But the two scroll work fabrics have been sitting in my stash since December 2015.The glitter dot was made AFTER January 1st, so it fits into the challenge. #sswdeepstash

#3 The day to night challenge with Elizabeth Made This. The Day to night challenge is an opportunity to make a DAY and a NIGHT dress. Must be sewn AFTER January 8th. That throws out my Sis Boom Carolina Mae, but my Candy Skulls Angie was made just this week, so it completely fits in here. Stay tuned to see what I end up making for the NIGHT part of the challenge.

#4 As part of the Sew Alongs and Sewing Contests group, they were also having a Ridiculous Fabric Pop-up Contest. You better believe I entered my Sis Boom Angie. When I think Candy Skulls, I immediately think of the Mexican, “Day of the Dead.” We celebrated Day of the Dead this year with my family, so its hard to think of the candy skulls outside of November 1st. But man, they’re colorful and fun and have all the colors I love. Black, fuchsia, turquoise. They’re awesome. And I aim to wear them all year round.

#5- Whew… Finally the actual reason I can justify a whole post, the Sis Boom Just For Me January. #justformejanuary I’ve actually made 2 new Sis Boom Dresses just since January 1st. And we count the ones I made BEFORE the new year, I’m up to 5 dresses since December 1st. You might say, I’m in love.

Sis Boom Patterns – Always a Perfect Fit

Long time Sis Boom fan, Rachel Berwick Hodges, was contacted by her friend Christiana Nelson recently to sew dresses for herself and her daughter. Rachel lives in New Hampshire and Christina is in Texas so they weren’t going to have a chance to met in person, pick a pattern together and take measurements. But luckily with Sis Boom Patterns, you always get the perfect fit.

Rachel said of the experience “These patterns are so great! Christy gave me their measurements and I chose the pattern sizes based off of them, which resulted in perfect fits! I haven’t seen either of them in a year, so being able to get a perfect fit just going by measurements means that Sis Boom patterns really are something.”

Rachel sewed the Carolina Mae for Christy and the Meghan Peasant for her daughter. All the fabric used in the dresses is from the Good Company fabric line. Both dresses look amazing on these 2 lovely ladies! Thanks for sharing with us, Rachel.

We hope you’ll keep Sis Boom Patterns in mind for your Holiday Sewing. If you ever have any questions on the patterns or sewing in general, you can join our Sis Boom Pattern Co Facebook Group. Don’t forget to tag us on Facebook and Instagram to show off you Sis Boom creations.

Think SPRING

Hard to believe it’s February already! The good news is Groundhog Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow today, so legend has it spring will be early this year. We sure hope so.

If you’re thinking ahead to spring and Easter, the PERFECT sewing project is our darling Shannon Dress. While you’re at it, make yourself one in one of our more popular women’s patterns, the uber flattering Carolina Mae. Both dresses would look especially spring-like in fabric from the Nostalgia collection.

Sis Boom Guest Blogger – Rachel Hodges

Today’s guest blogger is Rachel Hodges from beautiful New Hampshire. When these stunning photos popped up on our Facebook newsfeed, we had to know more about this talented seamstress and her lovely models. If you’re ever in New Hampshire, do yourself a favor and spend part of your day at the Saint-Gaudens Park where these striking photos very taken. We hope you are as inspired by these photos as we were!

My name is Rachel Hodges and I was born in the Philippines to missionary parents. I grew up in Southern California and New Hampshire. I currently resides in Hinsdale, New Hampshire with my sweet husband, wild little children, and scheming mini poodle. I am a homemaker who takes online college courses when I can. I sporadically maintain a blog. Late at night, after the children have been tucked into bed, and with my husband snoring loudly beside me, I diligently write my first romance novel. Sewing keeps me sane.

My mother taught me how to sew when I was eight. One of my first projects was a cloth doll with embroidered hair, face, and ruffled dress. It was a deeply satisfying feeling to hold the doll, which seemed almost to have a life of its own, and realize: “I caused this to exist.” Thirty years later, I still experience that sense of wonder when I hold up a finished garment and marvel that, just a few hours ago, it was a crumpled pile of scraps on my sewing table.

It brings me joy when I can combine sewing with my other loves, which are family, deep friendships, amateur photography, and places that hold meaning for me. Saint-Gaudens Park in Cornish, NH has long held a special place in my heart. My husband and I went there on our second date. Surrounded by the breathtaking views of Mt. Ascutney, beautiful sculptures, and the neoclassical architecture, we realized we had each found “the one.” So, when I had sewed new clothing for my dear friend, Sarah Cadreact, and her two daughters, I knew just where I wanted to photograph them. Our daughters played together and ran all over the beautiful place while we chased them, snapping pictures. When they had tired out, Sarah posed in her two new dresses, looking absolutely lovely. We were having such a great time snapping pictures, we almost failed to notice her baby rolling down the hill, or our two preschoolers teetering on the edge of a high brick wall. So, we only got a few good pictures, but we had a marvelous time!

Pattern Credits: Sarah’s dresses are Sis Boom’s Carolina Mae and Sew Serendipity’s Monique Dress. Baby Grace’s dress is Scientific Seamstress’s Portrait Peasant. Lily and Zoë’s pants are Scientific Seamstress’s Easy Fit Pants. Zoë wears Scientific Seamstress’s Simply Sweet top and Scientific Seamstress’s Stripwork Jumper. All fabric by Sis Boom.

We are pumped!

It’s taken awhile to get here but we are so uber excited by the latest Pattern release.  Carla Crim of Scientific Seamstress has done it again.  We know you have waited awhile and we do apologize for the delay but it is extremely important to Carla that the larger women get the same fit as the smaller women…No one left behind and believe me it shows.  Every detail, every size, every tester matters to us!! This was not easy to fit all “the Girls” and quite a bit went into the cup sizes to give that unequivocal Sis Boom fit.  Carla may have wanted to pull her hair out at times but she developed a seamless pattern with the ease that you have come to know.  We say quilter Friendly for a reason!  If you can sew a straight seam chances are that you can follow these clear cut instructions.  Carla I bow before you with so much envy for what you do and the population that are sworn scientific seamstress followers.  Carla is the one to beat always outdoing her personal best.  Tell you something else..she loves a challenge and the determination to complete this pattern was only matched by her enthusiasm to conquer her fears!!  She is for us the Holy Grail of Pattern makers.  A personal note..Carla together each with our own skill set are going to set this world on fire!!!! I love and respect you so much!

Take a look at these masterpieces!!!  Testers you all rock!!!  I mean it, I may forget your name but I won’t forget your service to a great SB pattern!!  We really appreciate you. Your feedback means everything!!!
