Full Disclosure

I took sewing classes at the College of the Virgin Islands extended ed program and failed. I was 15.  Never quite got over it and also to be honest never quite got it..I have serious distraction issues and sewing just frustrated the heck out of me.  Also I can whip up 25 craft items to one sewn garment so I decided to walk away.  It just wasn’t fast enough for me.  but I need to share that I have three sewing machines and when the bobbin would finish I’d have my friend Nancy Geaney who you all know come over and load up another bobbin.  Well today for the very first time I filled a bobbin with thread and are you ready for this??? I put it in the machine, threaded the machine and got it to stitch..all on my own.  Needless to say it’s a very very big Day.  Lots of Firsts this week and you re all helping me bywalking through your beginner fears and letting the miracle happen.

So here it is today’s quilted paper bags, I call it art, so not ready for fabric yet, I feel like that commercial where the bunny is on the zip line so happy with himself.  oh and do me a favor don’t tell Nancy  I’ll pretend cause I like when she comes over.  Cheers and Hip Hip Hooray!!

The shapes for this were made with my Go baby accuquilt sewing companion. It cuts circles and hearts so easily. See it here.  They have  a great Valentines kit savings going on see it here.

The zig zag is working for her!!

Susan from Sew Darn Simple tweeted to me today that her  (DH) dear husband has even taken notice of her work at late !! I think it’s the zig zag!!  I stepped out of my comfort zone and did the zig zag design and I really like it !!  It reminds me of a zebra design or a leopard design it just works and supports the designs that go with it..!!  Susan these are sensational.  love um!! Susan is on a lucky streak she was the first to see the ad in the McCalls Quilting Magazine for Crazy Love.  Susan also has the box bag on raffle so leave a comment at her place..Just saying!!!

Have a great day all.. I am conquering pom poms today so stand by!!!

Sunnyside up!!!

Look at these!!  Fancy Dancy er what?????  It’s the baby bubble with the ruffle bottom that’s just icing.  So I go over to Judy’s Facebook Judy of  (Hickity Pickity fame) wall to see what’s shaking and I find out she’s getting together with Stephanie Danko!! (Tabbo Design)   Hellloooooooo no one told me!!  Seriously that got me so excited cause let me tell you woman need woman ..men are great absolutely  but we get out our strength from other women.   I adore my husband but if he ever gets me I’m in a heep a trouble.  So these wonderful women may possibly get together.  Think of how lucky we are to make such amazing connections on facebook and twitter!!  It’s way better and easier to connect with like minded souls..  Judy and Stephanie have fun and enjoy..wish I could join you!!!

The dresses are so sweet and sell like crazy from Hickity Pickity (The fabrics are from West Indies ) and Stephanie can’t   keep up with her orders for ipad cases !!!!  Done in Honey Child Fabrics.

What a difference a day makes!!

Read this to yourself and never forget it..Wise words from Marianne  Williamson

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.’ We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There’s nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we’re liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” (A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”, Harper Collins, 1992. From Chapter 7, Section 3])

Her book Return to Love is amazing and I’m so grateful that someone gave it to me years ago..

So here are my french knots now.  By God, I think she’s got it!! perseverance and believing you are deeply loved unconditionally makes the perfection monsters go away. Create a mantra, like “I believe in all good things” say it over and over .  Affirmations saved my life. I used to tell myself everyday “I am strong and capable of handling whatever comes up today!!” that came in right handy.

Thanks for all your comments yesterday, it’s the brokenness and hardship that keep us together.  I’m grateful for my struggles they have humbled me and keep me reaching out to do service for others.  You guys know I am here for you and that is better than any gift I could ever receive.  Now check out these french knots now don’t be  jealous!!

Ugly Ducklings and being a beginner

I do this every year in January .  It’s a ritual that gets me feeling vital and able to contribute.  This process inspires me. As you can see my books ….(almost 30 to date)  include notes, photos, memorabilia, ideas, but never judgement.  When I grew up I loved new notebooks, clean pages and once I had written in them they felt scarred somehow because I didn’t do it perfectly.  Yes I had serious perfection issues that kept me from starting many projects.  I didn’t like being a beginner and going through the ugly duckling phase.  With that in mind,I encourage you to do this but not with judgement.  I start with a blank journal nothing to precious cause that can also keep me from starting. I combine photos because it was the way I chose to scrapbook, more informally , more integrated into my lifestyle.  If I waited for perfect moments and perfect layouts I would never do them.  So I choose to keep them in my working albums where I am more inclined to see them. These books become working reference books that I go to for color and product ideas and inspiration. The blessing for me is that my daughter loves to look through them also.  I find that she really really loves the visual tool and gets excited by the juxtaposition of form and shape.  These books are so helpful to helping me focus, as I cut and glue I am thinking and exploring my world.  I am deciding what I choose to place on the pages, they have merit to me and they excite me.  So cut things out, print things off the internet, no criticism.  I love felt and sequins and to embroider so I created something from the inspiration in these books and  I’ve even included it here for you to see.  It’s an ugly duckling somewhat but I wanted to show you it’s ok to be a beginner and  there is no right or wrong way to proceed.  My french knots have a ways to go but I could see by taking baby steps they were getting better.  That’s all a result of not judging the actions I take and telling myself it’s ok and it’s a process.  Go ahead laugh at those loosey goosey french knots, I did!! Try to do something you’ve always wanted to do and let me know.  I’m standing by. xo
