My name is Danielle and I live on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland, Australia, with my husband and two beautiful daughters. We love living by the beach, in a lovely community with our friends and family. I work part-time in a profession that I thoroughly enjoy, although I’m incredibly lucky to have a hobby (sewing and fabric collecting) that is such a contrast to my day job. It’s a wonderful creative outlet!

I have fond childhood memories of my mum staying up late at night, sewing an outfit for me to wear to a dance in Primary school. That would’ve been in the mid 80’s, and at the time I didn’t know that one day that would be me with my own daughters!

Both my grandmothers sewed leather jackets in the 1950’s-70’s in Melbourne. I still have some of the beautiful leather in my personal collection, and it’s very sentimental! My grandfather worked in a lingerie factory in the 1960’s – 80’s, and I have a collection of beautiful vintage laces from all over the world that he passed on to me. I love to use this lace to add vintage lace embellishments to special sewing projects.

I remember sewing my first project, a patchwork cushion, in Year 7 at high school. It was fun, but I think I liked choosing the fabrics even more than sewing them! I don’t remember sewing again until my Year 12 formal school dance. My mum and I made a beautiful maroon and lace formal dress, and it was so much fun to learn from her! I dabbled over the years with sewing some of my own clothing, but it wasn’t until my brother and I both got married in the same year that I began to make bridesmaid and wedding dresses. That was truly a specialised skill, and I loved it!

I began to make much more of my own clothing, but my true passion for fabric ignited in 2006 when I had my first daughter. The gorgeous prints, and the vibrant colours were a magnet for my creativity and I sewed nearly everything that she wore. A few years later my second daughter was born, and I was able to concentrate more on sewing. I had many requests from people that wanted to buy my clothing, and that was when my hobby turned into Paisley Avenue!

When making clothing, my motto is that the fabrics are the star of the show! For me, it is all about the fabric choice. I have a lot of fabric, and luckily I have a very supportive hubby that embraces my love of creating with this wonderful medium. My eldest daughter is now showing an interest in sewing, so I cannot wait to introduce the next generation to the wonderful world of fabric! She can already pick Jennifer Paganelli fabrics without any prompting…and so can my hubby!
