Sis Boom Super Fan: Rachel Berwick Hodges

Rachel is a long time fan of Sis Boom and one of our most positive, vocal supporters online. Jennifer loves reading her positive comments and seeing what Rachel designs and sews using Sis Boom fabric so much, she named the Rachel fabric in the new Color Brigade line after her! You can follow Rachel on her sewing adventures on her blog, Mrs Podge.

My name is Rachel Berwick Hodges. I live in Massachusetts with my husband and two young children. My mother taught me how to sew by hand when I was nine, and I learned how to use a machine in my junior high home economics class. I was constantly trying to find little short-cuts so I could hurry up and have a finished product, much to the despair of my teacher, Mrs. Thatcher! Thanks to her patience, I learned to pay attention to the little details that make a garment look truly finished.

When my children arrived, I put sewing on the back burner for a couple years, and missed it horribly. When I returned to my favorite pastime, I came across the “Crazy Love” line in an online quilt shop, and was hooked!

Jennifer’s fabrics are unique, in that they seem to be infused with a kind of tangible joy. The “Nostalgia” line is no exception. I bought a few yards, and enjoyed working with them so much, I ordered even more! Everything I made seemed even more lovely because of the softly faded colors and vintage-inspired designs!

Though very much an amateur, I love to dress my friends up and play “fashion photographer”. How fortunate that they are as obliging as they are photogenic! I hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

Below are pictures of dresses and tops Rachel sewed herself for friends and family using fabric from the Nostalgia line. Patterns are from Sis Boom Pattern Co and include the Cathy, the Jenny, the Leighanna, and the Angie.

Sis Boom Super Fans- Meet Jenny and Her Daughter Kelsey

Meet Jenny and her lovely daughter, Kelsey. The family lives in Texas and Jenny is out FIRST documented Sis Boom fan. For real! Jenny has supported Sis Boom from the beginning, and we watched both her daughters grow up over the years. Her youngest daughter, Kelsey, is quite the budding fashionista and we are in awe of the beautiful outfits Jenny sews for her using Sis Boom fabric. Below Kelsey is wearing the Leighanna in Beverly from the Good Company fabric line. Follow her blog and on Facebook.

I am Jenny Fish of Sew Pretty Dresses and Kelsey and Caroline. I started sewing 20 years ago where I first started with quiltmaking with the occasional dabble in making clothes and bags. I switched to sewing primarily children’s clothing when my daughter turned 2. She has been my constant inspiration to sew since then. I find that staying in close connection with my sewing friends keeps me motivated to create and Jennifer Paganelli of Sis Boom has really been my biggest cheerleader and motivator in putting myself out there and trying new things. Her encouragement, gorgeous fabrics and creations spur me on to keep sewing and designing.

Introducing the Leighanna

our next pattern is about to come off the presses , We are so excited to introduce the Leighanna and the little girl who inspired it all.  This little girl belongs to Cathy and is not Leighanna.  Confused yet??? Cathy is one of our beloved testers and our Pattern customer service rep.  Her little girl was the first to wear the Leighanna.  Cathy came to us via  the scientific seamstress , Carla Crim (by the way she is pumping out the bias tape with her new gizmo so go take a look) Cathy is a diehard Sis Boom fan , fun loving and loves to sew.  See her wonderful blog here Sewing Story Projects .   Cathy we can never thank you enough for representing Sis Boom in the wonderful professional way you do.  If you ever have a technical question she’s your girl.  So here is the Leighanna in poodle and lucky for you i found some here. Quilt Home. Hey Leignna tell dad to get your peasant done so I can introduce you to the world.  Cathy next time we name the pattern after this pretty girl..Scouts honor.  Dress or top you call it.
