Nora Mae’s Legacy

So when I went to Springs Creative to visit I stayed in the historical Homestead built in 1790 by John Springs and saw first hand the rich history that Springfield Plantation held,  I was overcome with emotion.  A shack with Cotton written in white paint reminded me of all that came before me and the ancestors that grew cotton to support a thriving mill industry.  As Americans we are all part of that amazing legacy when America reigned supreme in the manufacturing of cotton.  The Homestead Still owned by the Springs family was beautifully maintained and  I couldn’t help but realize how  well preserved and how reverently everything was kept.  I saw slave quarters which is a very big part of  the cotton history at that time.  The Springs Family are  ambassadors to protecting and preserving the rich history of cotton..  A Beautiful  library of books with famous authors of the 18th and 19th century are immaculately kept. Letters from the 1500’s are documented. Rooms full of fabric and pieces from the earlier Springs collections are beautifully kept in their archives. I tell you they are amazing stewards of the Fabric manufacturing in this country.  I loved being in the presence of such enormous knowledge. So when I came upon Nora Mae and they told me she was the oldest living employe I was struck hard by all she’d seen in her long life.  The tales this woman could tell.  All the wonderful knowledge of the bygone years.  She saw manufacturing go overseas, I can’t imagine what that must have done overtime to these folks.  She saw an amazing bustling city time go dormant, Mills emptied out, buildings sold off.  How had she managed?  I knew shortly after I left South Carolina that I wanted to name a fabric line for this beautiful woman.  I was stunned by her lovely welcome and that southern charm as only someone of her upbringing would know.  I am blessed she loves the fabric line named for her.  It is my tribute to her and to everyone who ever worked at Springs.  I salute you, all of you. Thanks Nora Mae for being so beautiful to a girl on her first visit to your wonderful land.  Happy Land that is.  Nora Mae is sold under the Jenny Eliza brand for Joann’s all done by Me, Jennifer Paganelli.luckycharm

Jenny Eliza

Jenny Eliza was my mom’s nick name for me and it always made me feel sooooooo good. Mom’s nick names had a way of doing that.  With that in mind Jenny Eliza for JoAnn’s has the same feel good character that describes that cozy feel mom communicated every time she chirped my name.  I love Jenny Eliza, the scale, the colors, all perfect for quilting, and sewing beautiful clothing and home designs.  Madeline captured the happiness in this cool graphic below with this wonderful layered dress.  She’s so cool!!!!

I hope you’ll be standing by when this arrives at your local store!!  We hope that it tickles your soul and inspires you to do pretty!!!  Please follow Jenny Eliza on facebook for the latest updates.  …as always thanks for dropping by we are so happy to have you!!

I love Mary Fons

Ok it’s no secret.  I just love her heart and her ability to make you feel welcome and part of something great.  She is so super excited about life, about love, about quilts!!  Most of you know her through her show Quilty on PBS.  Recently I had the good fortune to meet Mary when she came to my home about two months ago and I tell you It was if I knew her my whole lifetime.  It was girl talk central and I just so enjoyed her company As well as my all around Gal Pal Susan Morgan who introduced us.  Believe me an overnight was not out of the question but they had plans the next day. …. I pictured us in (what else)  Pajamas getting CRay CRay.  What can I say?  I actually had the opportunity to fly to Iowa yup with Springs Creative for the Jenny Eliza Brand for JoAnns Fabric and Craft and tape a PBS show for Fons and Porter..yes!! in the same exact room as Marianne Fons and Liz Porter, I know I know I know…so giddy and trying to act professional when inside I was like Check Me Out!!!!! So Mary has just come out with an amazing Quilt Book called Make + Love Quilts and will be signing May 20th at City Quilter in NYC from 6-8!!  That’s a big deal and a big honor for anyone.  She is so approachable so fun and so easy to be with oh and did I say her quilts are divine??  I meant to open with that.  Please go to her facebook watch her gorilla marketing style video for Make + Love Quilts and her opening a fedex package  with her book inside and then you will see why I love her so much.  Like all of us in the SisBoomer Jenny Eliza Family we know how to have fun…Fabric and quilts just make us fun to be with!! Oh and get a daily dose of Mary at her blog PaperGirl !
