Just for Me January Blog Tour Day 9

Sewing with Just for Me January
by A Crazy Craft Lady

Sadly, it seems like the only time I get to sew lately is if I sign up for a blog tour or to do testing! My job keeps me pretty busy during the day and my kids’ activities keep me hopping at night. I have to admit though that I’ve started to sew a few things for myself, but this may in fact be the first thing I’ve completed for myself in the last 10-15 years!

The only thing keeping me somewhat same from working the crazy hours this past month is crafting, but sewing isn’t very portable so I’ve been doing a lot of crochet work. I’ll have to share some pictures of those on here next time!

I honestly hate pictures of myself since I still have 30 more pounds I want to shed, but I am super happy that I did finally finish something just for me!!

This is the SisBoom Dana Pattern and I made it as dress length. I used every piece of the two yards of the Black Damask fabric that I had ordered from One Red Blossom back at the end of August. It’s actually pretty speedy for me to use something from that recent of an order and not stash it in my hoard!

Just For Me January Blog Tour Day 5

Today Teronia of Sew Haute took our Rebecca Shift Dress to the next level with simple black fabric and ruching. Inspired by a $1500 Dolce and Gabbana dress, Teronia sewed a dress just as beautiful but much more affordable.

I know lots of people would agree that 2016 was rough and I didn’t think so until something happened right before the holidays. So, in order to have something to look forward to and to celebrate my birthday (January 31st) I joined the Sis Boom – Just for Me January blog tour.

I chose the Rebecca Shift Dress, but what I had been craving for a long time was a sheath dress.

As I scoured the internet for inspiration I found this little gem styled so many different ways.

I was in love!

This is a Dolce and Gabbana design that retails for $1500+. Whew…..that’s a pretty penny. And what a great challenge. I wanted to do this soooo bad, but would I be skilled and/or lucky enough to get it right?

Sis Boom Holiday Tour Day 8

Thanks for following along with us on our Holiday Tour. Remember, if you have any questions about our patterns or sewing in general, we have a lovely and active Sis Boom Pattern Co Facebook Group. Today’s post by Troops to Tots is on our popular Betsey Apron. These are a quick sew and would make lovely holiday gifts.

Cherished Family Memories and Sis Boom Patterns
By Troops to Tots

Thanks for stopping by for Sis Boom’s Holiday Tour. I sewed up four completely reversible Betsey Aprons for my grandmother, mom, myself and daughter! It was such a blessing that four generations of my family were able to get together to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Sis Boom has also generously given Troops To Tots a copy of the Betsy Apron to giveaway so you can make your own aprons and create some cherished family memories, and just in time if you need a quick Christmas gift to sew. The Betsey Apron has you covered as it features 3 sizes (child, misses, and women).
And visit us again tomorrow as I am featuring another Sis Boom pattern, the Ethan Shirt.

My family isn’t too big on cooking, we actually ordered our Thanksgiving dinner from the grocery store this year. But for good reason, since it is pretty rare to have so many of us together for a holiday we wanted to spend it enjoying each other’s company – not cooking. However we put our aprons to work baking some brownie deliciousness (and heating up dinner!).

This is Little E and her yiayia (my mom). There is a funny story behind how my mom’s grandbabies started calling her yiayia (which is Greek for grandmother). Little E and I moved in with my parents when she was 3 months old and stayed for 10 months. My husband was stationed overseas in Japan at the time and my parents took pity on me and let us stay with them so I didn’t have to be alone raising a baby, thank goodness for family. Emily didn’t say any actual words while we were living with my parents, but that wasn’t going to stop my mom from finding some syllable that Little E could say easily (because “grandma” was just going to take too long). Little E’s favorite syllable at the time were “blah blah” and so my mom ran with it and found the closest sounding thing to grandma, yiayia. And now all her grandbabies call her yiayia! It has led to some funny encounters when those who speak Greek hear Little E call my mom yiayia and naturally they think we speak Greek. This usually requires some explaining.

I have had this fabric in my stash and couldn’t wait to pull it out to make something this year. My husband’s family has a tradition of watching A Charlie Brown Christmas every Christmas Eve and after which, my FIL would snuggle the little one(s) and read the Bible passage from Luke to everyone.

The Holidays with Sis Boom

I am very excited Sis Boom decided to put on a Holiday blog tour. I had such a wonderful time during the Back to School tour that I jumped at the chance to be a part of another.

holiday-tour-sis-boom-jpg

The holidays are a very special time for me. It’s a time for family gatherings, and traditions but they also have a special place in my heart when it comes to sewing. The first dress I ever made my daughter as a baby was a Christmas dress and that is when my passion of sewing garments became real. I love giving her something special each year, unique to her and her growing personality.

For this year’s Christmas dress, I chose to use the Marissa Dress PDF pattern. It is so elegant but still captures an innocence that she possesses. I don’t need her growing up any faster then she already is.
