Sophie’s Quilt – Hotel Frederiksted

Its Fri-yay!

Not when you are a mum that makes a huge amount of difference but it is nice to feel I am celebrating with the rest of the world, even if it is just a bowl of doritos and a cup of peppermint tea lol.

Now I have a LOT of photos to show you and I mean a LOT! You know how I always bang on about wishing I could improve my photo taking skills? Well problem solved guys – I asked talented local photographer Angela Lisman to accompany me to a photo shoot for my recent quilt – the result is that you are going to see a LOT of photos because I could not choose my favourites, she really is that good!

One of my most favourite things to do in the world is work with the amazing fabrics designed by Jennifer Paganelli, the woman is a legend in matching colour and pattern and doing amazing things with both. Her latest range Hotel Frederiksted is no exception and I think it is my favourite so far. I love jewel colours and florals, throw in birds and I am in quilty heaven!

I am more of a last minute kind of gal! Somehow I stay organized (love my “to-do” list) but I am known to procrastinate A LOT! Hmmmm…starting my kids Halloween costumes 48 hours before they needed to be worn, for example! But when I received my Hotel Fredriksted samples, I couldn’t resist jumping into “Holiday” Mode since this collection features gorgeous reds, greens, blue and white colorways that fit perfect with the Winter Holiday Spirit.

It’s tradition here for Hobbes grandparents to take her to see the Nutcracker Ballet, so I wanted to create a festive look that will mirror Hanukkah and Christmas enthusiasm, yet include the comfort and wear-abilty that is my signature style.

I instantly grabbed Gabriella Fae, Hobbes favorite Sis Boom pattern and went to work. I wove Krysta in white and Christie in Blue (cutting stripes) together to create the skirt.

For the top, I chose Sophia in pink, a bit of white half inch crochet trim for the centerpiece and a lacy exposed zipper for the back.

I wanted a full skirt for Hobbes size three width-I cut each stripe from salvage to salvage and then curved the bodice to create a light bounce in the front.
See here for my previous tutorial on curving bodice.

Let me know what you think of Hobbes’s Hotel Fred Holiday dress and of you had a chance to try out curving your dress bodices too.

Till next time, Happy Sewing!

One Fabric Nation – Color Brigade

Honestly, I Just LOVE everything Jennifer Paganelli does. Her fabric design and color sense really speak to me. Well, serenade me is more like it.

Full, rich, and over the top.

Sheer joy to my soul.

Seriously.

Color Brigade is a perfect example. Lush florals and highly detailed damask like patterns. And a fun tiled geometric. Very reminiscent of the fifties.

Sis Boom Patterns – Always a Perfect Fit

Long time Sis Boom fan, Rachel Berwick Hodges, was contacted by her friend Christiana Nelson recently to sew dresses for herself and her daughter. Rachel lives in New Hampshire and Christina is in Texas so they weren’t going to have a chance to met in person, pick a pattern together and take measurements. But luckily with Sis Boom Patterns, you always get the perfect fit.

Rachel said of the experience “These patterns are so great! Christy gave me their measurements and I chose the pattern sizes based off of them, which resulted in perfect fits! I haven’t seen either of them in a year, so being able to get a perfect fit just going by measurements means that Sis Boom patterns really are something.”

Rachel sewed the Carolina Mae for Christy and the Meghan Peasant for her daughter. All the fabric used in the dresses is from the Good Company fabric line. Both dresses look amazing on these 2 lovely ladies! Thanks for sharing with us, Rachel.

We hope you’ll keep Sis Boom Patterns in mind for your Holiday Sewing. If you ever have any questions on the patterns or sewing in general, you can join our Sis Boom Pattern Co Facebook Group. Don’t forget to tag us on Facebook and Instagram to show off you Sis Boom creations.
