SIS BOOM CLIP ART SERIES: FAUX LIGHTED MIRROR

Hey everyone! I’ve got a super quick & simple project for today’s Sis Boom Clip Art Series: A Faux Lighted Mirror!

For this project we’ll be using Sis Boom’s Glitter Garland Circles

All you’ll need is this clip art file, some scissors, and adhesive dots.

Start by printing out the clip art onto glossy photo paper and cutting out each circle.

Grab some adhesive dots, adhere to the back of the circles, and start sticking! It’s as easy as that!!

If you want your mirror to have a more “authentic” look of lights, you can choose to just use the gold glitter circles. Line the top of your mirror with the large circles to simulate vanity lights. (You can even line the bottom with the small or large dots if you want!)

Or you can use just pink, or alternate between the two colors. They could also just be used as a decorative border around a mirror – the possibilities are endless!

Solids from Westminster

Honestly, these are the best colors I’ve seen so many will work beautifully with Circa.  I couldn’t help myself and I hope you will find something that works for you.  Feel free to call upon me for matching to Circa!!!  It won’t be long now folks it’s around the corner. xo

Makes it so special!

So I had my friend Maritza Bermudez who worked on Happy Home with me create this beautiful canopy just like the one in Happy Home. Once the hardware is up you can take this and change it out. I can’t get over this. All these wonderful bouquets cascading down.  I tell you I just will never get enough of Circa and I hope you don’t either.  So for a fraction of what designer fabrics would cost you can have the same upscale look!!! Seriously this could cost up to $1000.00 to $1500.00 in Ct. easily!!!  DIY  this was $160.00 for fabric!!  For those of us obsessed with fabric that is a drop in the bucket. Back to back these fabrics are just so perfect together.  Please note nothing matches, I love just throwing together what I love!!!  When you surround yourself with things you love that is your signature look!!  So I hope you like what you see not at all fussy, just impromptu.  soon the Circa Pillows will be done and we will show you some whole cloth quilts. Enjoy the photos and of course Mr. George in the middle of it all.

St. Croix Vibe

Look at this beauty, I would have loved a face but sometimes it’s just not a good hair day.  This is my old island roots. I love woman of color in brights it brings me back to my homeland.  And when I hear a sing songy dialect of the Caribbean islands I am somehow immediately transported to a wonderful time in my life.  This color dazzles on this woman and I’m so glad her first choice was brights.  Against her skin tone it was just all meant to be.  Sara Beth Upshaw of Molly Blossom’s is kicking it up big time in Jackson Mississippi and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing silhouette!! Follow her Etsy shop and website for upcoming releases.  Pattern coming soon so stay close.  Thanks Sara for a beautiful silhouette. Crazy love fabric found here!!

Sis Boom Bah

I say this when I refer to Kathy Hennessy because she is everyone’s cheerleader and runs an incredible group on facebook for like minded sewing gals/guys.  What a forum it is and I love to see the relationships and kinship’s that develop out of such a place.  She has ground rules and insists that others play fair and she encourages everyone in their passions and pursuits. Her blog the same name as the Facebook page she runs is called Handmade Dress Haven.  This is where it gets exciting. Here she does a tutorial on the Crazy Love Dress she created. I love the bib front on this special frock.  Follow the tutorial here.

As always thanks Kathy for letting me peek in to your sewing world and sharing the joys!! Love your 6 year old.

That much we do know.  We have an active community on facebook.  Alas the dreaded facebook but it’s amazing how fast we can get up to speed to see our favorite fabrics.  Brick and mortars, dead Sis Boom stock, can’t move, post your photos to Jennifer Byrne Paganelli and we will chat you up!!!  Better yet show us what you have and then our sewists will make the trip.  Are you a fan of Sis Boom ??? Shout out to Trains and Fabrics in Tacoma Washington, who doesn’t even do email for carrying some of our new lines. They now have a facebook page!!

SIS BOOM CLIP ART SERIES: DIGITAL EPHEMERA FRAME

HI Sis Boom Friends! Ok.. If you’ve seen our Clip Art and wondered, hmm.. How can I use that?! .. then this one’s for you.. (as is EVERY Friday post, shared by the lovely & oh so talented Jessica of Love Colorful!)

psssst… If you’re not a Photoshop gal or guy, then maybe this one’s not for you.. but all of the other demos by Jessica certainly are!

In this post, Jessica does an AMAAAAZING job walking you through Photoshop… explaining very slowly and carefully how to manipulate this file digitally. We encourage you to try- it’s not as scary as you may think! promise! Thanks Jessica for the awesome post.. pssst.. How beautiful is she?! (scroll to the bottom!) … Enjoy!

Take it away, Jessica!…

Hi guys! For this week’s Sis Boom Clip Art project I’ve got something a little different for you – an actual digital project using the digital clip art! Shocking, I know! hah Anyways, bust out your copy of Photoshop, and let’s get cracking!  For this project we’ll be using one of the pieces from the Love Ephemera clip art file.

First up, open the digital clip art file (.png) and a photograph you would like to use in Photoshop. (P.S. you can click any of these screenshots I’ll be using to show them a little bigger if you need to! Also, if I mention any keyboard shortcuts, I’m using a Mac – things may differ slightly on a PC, but will be the same basic concept)

Using the “Rectangular Marquee Tool” on the left hand side of your screen (the dotted rectangle icon below the arrow at the top) select just the frame in the bottom right corner. Then copy the selection (“Edit > Copy”)

Now go to “File > New” to open a new document. By default, since you have a selection copied to your clipboard, it should come up as showing a preset for “Clipboard” (This will automagically size your new document to fit your selection). Hit OK!

And paste your selected image into your new document.

At this point, if the photograph you chose to use is vertical, leave your canvas the way it is. If your photo is horizontal, however, go to “Image > Image Rotation > 90 CW”

Ok, now for the fun part – we get to use the Polygonal Lasso Tool! You select the tool, then click ‘points’ in which to make your selection. Start from one of the inside corners of the center image, and keep clicking along the edge – basically trace the inside frame. While the little cherub dude is cute and all, you want to add your own shining face, right? (Or perhaps a loved one, your pet gerbil, or a pretty scene)

Once you’ve gone all the way around the middle of the frame, you’ll see the marquee dotted line wiggling all over the place. (You’ll notice a little circle appears at the corner of the tool once you’ve made it all the way around to the beginning and connect your lines)

Now we want to invert the selection, so go to “Select > Inverse”

Next we have to create a layer mask, so click the icon at the bottom of your layers pane that looks like a circle inside a rectangle. Click that and you should get something that looks like the picture above.

Next add a new layer. Then go to the photograph file you want to use, select all, copy, and paste it into your frame file.

Use the “control button + T” (or “Edit > Free Transform”)to fit the image (it will give you a box to resize it with). Hold shift and drag one corner of the photo until it is the size you need to fit in the frame. Then simply save your work, and bada-bing bada-boom: a super cute digital picture frame!
